At least 5 tornadoes caused damage across Southwest Florida, including the strongest one in the state since 2016, as a powerful cold front blew through the area Sunday morning.

Residents in Lee, Charlotte, and Collier counties are all picking up the pieces after destructive storms raced through Sunday morning.

The first warnings came in across Charlotte County just after 7 a.m. and continued until noon, moving south into Collier County.

Of these 21 warnings, the National Weather Service has confirmed 5 tornadoes between the 3 counties, with the strongest occurring in Fort Myers.

In fact, the Fort Myers tornado is the first EF-2 strength tornado to happen in the state of Florida in 6 years.
